Get prepared for our Closing Day
Just joining?
✍ Think about the theme: Protopia
In its original, minimalist — and admittedly rather lacking — formulation by Kevin Kelly, Protopia is simply a term that denotes the gradual improvement of society over time, without claiming either perfection or the reaching of a point of stability.

If we cannot allow ourselves to believe in a future paradise that has stabilized around a blissful state of affairs (Utopia), and we find it insufficient to look for those beautiful little exceptions of what life and society can be in certain regards under specific circumstances (Eutopia), perhaps we can more cautiously and realistically allow hope and faith in gradual but over time substantial improvements of society. As mentioned earlier, Kelly views such a capacity to improve as the true opposite of Dystopia.
Some inspiration from Monika Bielskyte about Protopia and its framework:
We consider mere “tolerance” a failure and actively resist the violence of sexism, misogyny, racism, colorism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, classism, and any other forms of exclusionary categorization and discrimination. Nothing embodies our approach as accurately as words by Alok Vaid-Menon: “Creativity reveals all categories to be artificial and unambitious.”
Our narratives are narratives of communities coming together rather than glorifications of individual “hero journeys” of magical saviors. COMMUNITY is the hero of our futures.
Our futures are embodied and interdependent. We revel in expanded sensory experiences and consciously make vital space for neurodiverse and disability inclusive expressions of intimacy, care, and radical tenderness.
With recognition of destructive feedback loops already in motion, we consider sustainability solutions entirely insufficient and aim for regenerative practices in every aspect of our civilizational construct. We prioritize biological over mechanical technologies as the only truly viable long-term strategy. We grow, not just build.
We appreciate the importance of spiritual practices from the dawn of humanity and their role in human culture-making. We therefore quest for spiritual practices that acknowledge ancestral wisdom, whilst also expanding rather than stifling scientific inquiry.
From the interwoven journeys of our Ancestors to the future living fabrics of our cities, we celebrate the role of creativity beyond the elitism of disciplines previously labeled as “artistic.”
We must depart from colonial/neocolonial individualist cultures of exploitation and greed, and endeavor to nurture cultures of equity, contribution, and planetary mutuality. We envision the values of a material degrowth society.

✨ Bring the energy!
During Trusted Seed Unconferences you’ll take control. You can get to propose, and run sessions yourself enabling peer-to-peer learning, collaboration and diverse session types and topics.
- Go with the flow – This event is intended to help you find the time and space to talk with and learn from each other. So, anyone can introduce a discussion topic for a session and everyone is expected to engage, participate and contribute! If you are a bit shy about public speaking, offer to take notes or help keep time, find another creative way to add something to the group’s experience.
- Follow your passion – Go to the sessions that interest you.
- Take responsibility for your own learning – If there are topics you are really interested in that don’t appear on the agenda at first, you need to put them on there.
- There is no right way to do a session – but it’s nice to promote healthy discussions try doing it by asking open questions!
- You don't need to do preparation in order to host a session – but it helps!
- Beat the nerves! – A good approach can be to take a friend or tell us you are new and would like some help to get settled in.
- Whoever comes is the right people.
- Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
- Whenever it starts is the right time.
- When it is over, it is over.
- Law of 2 feet. If a session isn't right for you or if you find yourself somewhere that you’re not comfortable or productive, you can move somewhere else!
Trusted Seed will use Zoom as the video conferencing platform to facilitate the activities for our Opening Day. If you’re not familiar with Zoom, you can always ask for help to our team, we are here to help you! But first check out the system requirements for using it.
Miro is an online collaboration whiteboard platform. This tool is intended to be used as a shared sandbox or information gathering for our sessions. If you are not familiar with this tool you can learn here how to get started with Miro.
🤚 Propose a session!
On the day of the event, the following first steps will be necessary to get ready: 1) accessing the Miro board and 2) joining the video conference Zoom meeting with the link shared via email to participants.
Once the Trusted Seed team started to provide some guidance and intro words to the event you’ll have the opportunity to scroll and zoom around to see our agenda. You’ll notice that will be empty - just a template of a bunch of sticky notes with Title or Question and Your Name that you can place in the Room/Session you choose for hosting your activity and direct access to a Google Doc for taking notes. Example:
During this process two things will be consider: Passion and responsibility
♥ Passion: Do you have a question? Do you have a topic to share? Do you want to participate in a different way?
🏳 Responsibility
During this process, we’ll probably discuss some agreements like:
- How many sessions we’ll run
- The length of each session
- Length of breaks between sessions if any
- Recording all sessions or just some of them
Trusted Seed will propose some timing around this but at the end, you’ll have the right to modify it and propose a different schedule always respecting the total start and end time of the activity.
On our Miro board there will be a space for note-taking per session/room each of them will have direct access to a Google Doc and all these documents will be linked to a Google Sheets that will act as a “Table of Content” to collect all Google Docs and where you’ll have the opportunity to access freely to all the documentation. Plus, you’ll have access to the main Folder in case you need to add extra information (images, PDFs, videos, etc).
During our Opening Day, you’ll be free to use this space for taking notes and all participants in the session are encouraged to help with it or someone can offer on doing it, so others can have the opportunity to read about the discussion that took place. Once finished the sessions, all these documents will become a public archive of our event with the resume, key ideas or blog post (any format allowed!) as a result of your meaningful conversations so others may have the opportunity to learn through the resulting file.
TIP: During the session don't try to write everything down otherwise you will be too busy focusing on the notes and not listening to the conversations.
📝 During the breakout rooms dynamic
Take into consideration that there’ll be breaking rooms or separate sessions from the main event in the same link, so you’ll have the opportunity to openly join to the session you’re interested the most and so you can interact with other participants and ask questions. Note: Participants not joined with the desktop or mobile app (version 5.3.0 or higher) will not be able to self-select a breakout room. The host will need to facilitate moving these participants manually.
- The host will need to invite you to join the breakout room.
- Click Join.
- If you choose Later, you can join by clicking Breakout Rooms in your meeting controls.
- Click Join Breakout Room. You will have access to full controls similar to the meeting.

When you enter the access the Zoom Meeting, you will enter the lobby room. Here you will find a complete overview of the agenda (the same available on the Miro board) on the shared screen and you can follow what is currently happening and what’s to come, this will allow you join the room you like the most. Plus, you can always ask on the chat and our Gardeners (Trusted Seed team) will guide you!
We’ll propose having breaks during our Opening Day. It’s important to always take care of yourself so try stepping away from the computer, getting a snack, refreshing your beverage. Consider stepping outside and getting some fresh air. You might even return to the lobby and socialize with others.
If you have any problem at any time during the dynamic you can come back to the lobby room or reach out Trusted Seed team (Max Semenchuck, Mafer Cordovas, Yineisy or Ivy). We’re here to help!
Also, in order to keep safety and anonymity you can always go directly to our chat in the bottom right corner of any page on this Wiki to report any kind of incidents, our lines of communication are open for you. Don’t hesitate to communicate your concerns with us!
In case you haven’t reviewed it yet we are using Gather as an optional channel to interact with other participants during our Trusted Seed Unconference and you’ll have the opportunity not only to interact with each other but also hosting sessions will be possible until the scheduling activity during the event on Gather! You'll be able to share your screen and use a whiteboard during your hosted session too.
Feel free to ask for assistance by reaching out to Yineisy Mota (Yineisy Mota#1449) for adding events and sessions inside the Gather calendar during the Opening Day or the Open Month!
💚 Closing Session
Join us to wrap up the day. The Closing Session is our open space to:
💭 Reflect on our time together
💬 Plan future actions
🗒 Take feedback notes
💗 Dishing Praise
💚 Say thanks and goodbye
💗 About using Praise
At Trusted Seed we practice the culture of giving and gratitude via the reward system: Praise. As participants during the Trusted Seed Unconference, we recognize the full range of value you’ll be creating, from minor to major in order to co-create a Protopian world with us and in sharing knowledge with the rest of the participants.
We’d like to invite you to be part of this culture! So here are the what, how and why about dishing Praise:
Praise is an open-source system developed by Commons Stack and it runs in its server which is the same server Trusted Seed uses to interact with its community. It encourages communities to cultivate a culture of giving and gratitude by recognizing and rewarding contributions. As an open source product, Praise can be deployed by any community that wishes to use it. See more information about Praise here.
To recognize a contribution during our session, you’ll need to interact with the praise bot. It’s only available in Commons Stack Discord Server, so that means you must join first. After joining our server you’ll need to activate your account to be able to dish praise and receive $TRUST!
Simply type and send the command /activate in any channel and you will be prompted to link your ETH address and access your Praise dashboard.
After that, you can type the command /praise in any channel to start dishing praise to other participants.
All praise received is quantified and is assigned a numerical value to that praise data. When all praise data for a period has been quantified, token allocations are made to those who have received Praise. In the Trusted Seed community $TRUST tokens are allocated to members. In short: active Trusted Seed members can increase their $TRUST by getting and dishing “Praise”.
For more information about your TRUST score, you may reach out to our Trusted Seed Gardeners mafer_cordovas#1034 and Yineisy Mota#1449 on Discord.
After the Opening Day: Enjoy our Protopian Month!
📅 Enjoy an Open Month for having your sessions!
During our Protopian Month, there will be an open agenda of self-led experience where you can decide the platform to carry out your event/activity. The best part? You don’t need to wait until starting our open month to submit a topic/activity! For doing it, please consider the following tips:
Optional:
Others:
Optional channels that can offer the above:
- Google Meet: is free for everyone but there are limitations. Free users are limited to 1 hour and 100 meeting participants. Only Google Workspace administrators (only Premium accounts) can record meetings.
- Commons Stack Discord Server: is free for everyone that joins the server. No limitations of time. In case of requiring to record a session you can use alternative tools like OBS. Not a Discord expert? Check out this comprehensive beginner's guide to Discord.
If you are a session host:
- Do not take it personally if no-one attends your session.
- Don’t assume people know more or less than you.
- As the person who proposed the session, share some more context at the start to get the discussion going.
- It’s best that each session topic has an angle – one that encourages debate and discussion. Make this clear and also share some tips on running a session prior to the event.
- You don’t have to use all the time in the session. If you reach a conclusion in 20 minutes, great! People can then have a break or join another session if possible.
- Don’t feel you have to prepare but do try and have some idea what you’d like to get out of it.
- Ask for help if you need to.
If you’re attending a session:
- Go with the flow – these events are to try and help you share and learn from others.
- Go to the sessions that interest you – if it’s not working, say so or try another session.
- Help the host – take notes, make sure that everyone has a chance to speak or take the time session.
Please, contact our Gardeners (Yineisy, Mafer, Ivy or Max) with the details of your session/activity:
- Title/topic or question
- Resume about what it could be about
- Zoom link (in case of selecting this tool)
- Optional: your social Twitter handle.
So they can help you to add and promote your session in our calendar and also on our Twitter channel.
Closing Day: Opening Year (Dec 20th)
🚀 The Trusted Seed Unconference Closing Day starts at:
GMT-4 (EST): 8-13
GMT+2 (CET/EU): 14-19
GMT+8 (Manila): 21-2
📅 Our Closing Day will be on December 20th!
Our Unconference is coming to an end and we’d like to offer you a meaningful and remarkable closing! We hope you have gained valuable insights and connections during our Protopian Month.
It’s time to ponder on our main question, bring more answers - or questions - and take what you’ve learned and apply it in the real world.
What to expect on Closing Day?
The Closing Day will take place on December 20th as a series of self-led sessions that will run for 5 hours on Zoom. Like on our Opening Day, together with other DAO stewards, you will co-create the agenda with a specific focus on answering the main Unconference question:
We’ll keep using this Miro board in creating the agenda during the Closing Day 👇
What’s an actionable framework?
An “actionable framework” is a set of plans and tools that help to achieve a desired change or transformation. It provides a structure or guide for building something new and useful. Being so, how could we proactively prototype hopeful futures?
Let’s retrospect!
This will be our time to look inward and turn outward. What part of the Unconference has made an impact or stuck with you? Share your observations and insights on our Closing Day.
Join our Praise party!
We’re wrapping up the Unconference by recognizing and celebrating all of the contributions to our Protopian Month.
At Trusted Seed, we practice the culture of giving and gratitude through the reward and reputation system Praise. We recognize the full range of value you have created in building Protopian futures. Here’s a quick guide on how to:
- Activate your Praise account in Commons Stack Discord server (by typing the command /activate)
- Write a good praise, and
- Dish praise to all participants (by typing the command /praise in any channel of the server)
We encourage you to prepare your praise list and have it ready before the Closing Day! Need help with people’s Discord handles? Our Gardeners are just a DM away!
Keep learning!
The learning process doesn’t end here. In the coming weeks, we will share more tips, discoveries and insights on how to use what we’ve learned at the Unconference to build Protopian futures.
