Ostrom's method of Institutional Analysis is used primarily in Academia to analyze Common-Pool Resource dilemmas and large institutions using game-theory and dynamic programming methods.
At present, the primary way of doing financial analysis on entities was established in Ben Graham's book Security Analysis which is also the period when the US Securities Exchange Commission was established. During the Unconference session was argued that 2 key modern mathematical techniques: game theory & fractals had not yet been discovered at the time of writing Security Analysis.
On that basis was postulated that these techniques (as outlined in Ostrom's Institutional Analysis) may provide a basis for understanding & designing a DAO which is profoundly different from the structures available to a Corporation.
When to use
This work presents the first attempt to turn the IAD framework into a computational model that allows communities of agents to perform what-if analysis on a given rule configuration.
How to use
- During the session, participants played a variation of the Snatch Game as a simple demonstration of the Action Arena outlined in Institutional Analysis.
- It might help give you ideas of little experiments you could run for developing rules and culture within your DAO or other organization
What you get
This approach could help DAOs to have their own legal recognition and designation, distinct from a corporation.
